5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and Indestructable, September 20, 2006

I have had my Coleman compact stove for 29 years. I use it for two to three trips a year and use it every day of each trip (usually 9 or 10 days per trip) to cook big meals on. It is EXACTLY the same as the new model. It has never needed a repair. I just clean it after each camping trip. Coleman fuel is inexpensive and easily found in any part of the US and a gallon of fuel lasts me practically two years. The stove fits perfectly inside a 16 gal rubbermaid container with all of my other cooking gear (including pans). I absolutely recomend this stove. You don't need one of those fancy complicated other stoves. The basic Coleman stove is a workhorse that doesn't break down.

5.0 out of 5 stars White Gas way more economical than propane, March 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Coleman 425F499G 2 Burner Compact Gas Stove (Sports)
The main motivation for me to buy this stove was to not have to worry about continually buying and safely dispose of propane canisters.

Pros
1) Walmart sells white gas for $9 a gallon - and it lasted me three weeks of cooking two meals a day on a road trip.
2) The wind breaks work really well (most of the time).
3) The flame is really hot (you even cook stir fry on this stove).
4) Construction is sturdy and simple.

Cons
1) Having to pump and prime the stove is a little more complicated than a propane stove - but once you've done it a few times it is pretty easy.
2) Be sure to have a small funnel when pouring in the white gas - the hole in the gas tank is really small and it easy to make a mess.

5.0 out of 5 stars unchanged in more than 50 years, April 14, 2009

This 425 2-burner Coleman stove has remained (relatively) unchanged in more than 50 years. This stove is simple, mechanically bombproof, and offers features unmatched by today's assortment of higher-priced, more 'convenient' stoves. For example, the 425 may be found nearly everywhere and shares rarely needed replacement parts across the product line. Tanks, valves, and generators are nearly interchangeable. The stove is easy to clean, spacious, and offers two burners: the main with a higher output, and a secondary, controlled by a simple turn key on the left-hand side of the stove case for simmering. This means that Iron Chef-wannabes can easily cook multiple entrees or multi-course meals on the camp table. The case offers a built-in windscreen. The tank is suspended by two tabs, although you can pin the tank if desired. The pump uses the ubiquitous Coleman pump assembly (although more recently this assembly uses a plastic washer). This stove will last a lifetime and you will not be... Read more
